“Drowning The Call” — Mirrorring
Mirrorring is the match made in Heaven collaboration between Liz Harris of Grouper and Jesy Fortino of Tiny Vipers. I know it sounds too good to be true, but it’s not—it’s simply more than good. And to my surprise, this truly sounds like a collaboration between two distinct artists—I saw someone on last.fm cleverly title it Dragging A Tiny Viper Up A Hill.
This track is my favorite from their upcoming LP, Foreign Body, and I believe it captures the project’s aesthetic precisely. This is a song that drops you into it, drifts you along its current, and washes you upon a shore. The elements surrounding you on this journey are never intrusive—the forwardness of the acoustic guitar strings, the hidden droning electric guitar, and the soft vocals of Harris (and possibly Fortino during harmonies) welcome you into its foreign body. This is one of the most inviting and warm tracks I’ve heard from these two women; so if this is what they consider drowning, I would rather sink than swim.
