“Demona (Dead Moon cover)” — Grouper

Believe it or not, I didn’t care for this when it was first released. Maybe because I wasn’t used to it? It’s very Grouper, but not what I would ever expect. But at times the gorgeous vocal melody that is buried in fuzz and guitars would come to me, and I would return to the song. The whole thing is aggressive, but always at the center is Liz Harris. Never decipherable, but she’s there and her voice always carries her songs. “Demona” is startling, but maybe because it’s something so good that I didn’t predict.
